Neues Museum
Bereichsnavigation 2. Ebene
The main entrance to the Neues Museum, which is also its historical access point, is situated on its eastern side under the colonnades. While Schinkel ostentatiously placed his Altes Museum in the public area, connecting its outer and inner spaces harmoniously, Stüler sequestered the Neues Museum from the outer world by means of an arcade. This arcade area created between the Neues Museum and (Alte) Nationalgalerie provided a space for the contemplation of art and science which was far removed from the cares of daily life.
In addition to this historical entrance in the Kolonnadenhof (Colonnades Courtyard), access is now also available to visitors on the western side since the building was reopened in 2009. The Egyptian Courtyard and the Greek Courtyard form part of the future Archaelogical Promenade which will connect it with the Altes Museum, the Pergamon Museum, the Bode Museum and the James Simon-Galerie.
