Ägyptisches Museum und Papyrussammlung
Bereichsnavigation 2. Ebene
When large scale excavations began in Egypt around 1900 and numerous art works came to Berlin as its share of the division of the finds, the Egyptian Museum, which had been opened in the Neues Museum in 1859, was already too small. Planned extensions to the building were not carried out, during the years of the war the collection was dispersed. Since 2009 the internationally unique collection of the Egyptian Museum, featuring among its treasures art works from the times of Echnaton and Nefertiti for example, has been on striking display in the reconstructed Neues Museum. The museum displays the art and culture of the realm of the pharaohs on three floors. Writings on papyrus from four millennia supplement the many works of art and other archaeological objects. The department for Sudan forms a bridge to the art and culture of Africa.
