Bust of Queen Nefertiti
The portrait bust of Queen Nefertiti is regarded around the world as the embodiment of the art of Old Egypt. It was found in Amarna in Middle Egypt by a Berlin expedition in 1912 and reached Berlin through division of the finds and soon became one of the symbols of Berlin. In her timeless beauty Nefertiti forms a direct link between antiquity and the present. In 2005 the bust moved, together with the Egyptian Collection, from Charlottenburg to the Museumsinsel, where it was initially on display on the upper level of the Altes Museum. Since 2009 it has been restored to the Neues Museum, where it occupies a place of honour in the Nordkuppelsaal.
