The Bode-Museum offers a special kind of bridge. The Christian Orient with focus on Coptic Egypt, Byzantine art and Ravenna form the prelude to the sculpture of the Middle Ages, which is followed by the rich collection of Italian Gothic and early Renaissance. German Late Gothic with works from Tilman Riemenschneider, the south German Renaissance and finally the baroque state art of Prussia lead into the 18th century.
Wilhelm von Bode's concept of "style rooms", which brought together sculpture, painting and the applied arts in the form of collections of affluent commoners, is to be found in the presentation which integrates selected works of the Gemäldegalerie into the sculpture collection.
