From the structural point of view the Archaeological Promenade represents the concept of merging the archaeological collections on the Museumsinsel. It will connect the Bode-Museum, the Pergamonmuseum, the Neues Museum and the Altes Museum at level "0", which up to now had been used primarily for depots and administration.

The Archaeological Promenade maintains the autonomy of the individual museum buildings as separate, unique buildings. The courtyards of these museums will be used as additional exhibition space and will likewise be connected by the Archaeological Promenade with one another. Visitors proceeding along this path will experience an Alternation of high rooms exposed to light, the courtyards, and low vaulted rooms which each reflect the character of the buildings of which they are a part. Thus the various access systems for the individual buildings are connected with one another almost as if by chance. New connecting pieces between the museums will be constructed in three places. They will also serve as exhibition rooms whose character will be determined during the remaining design process.
