The concept of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin of 1990 provides for a merge and largely joint presentation of the archaeological collections of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. It transcends the boundaries of the various museums involved to move the manifold points of contact and analogies between the cultures into the centre of attention.

The presentation aimed for crosses the boundaries of the collections, presupposing connections between the buildings of the Altes Museum, the Neues Museum, and the Pergamon and Bode museums. The "World of Antiquity" will be experienced as an integrated whole: In the future, 600,000 years of human history can be traversed by walking along the Archaeological Promenade, which will also allow access to the collections. Besides that, the archaeological museums share responsibility for the concept of the main circuit in the Pergamonmuseum, where the monumental architectures of antiquity are presented. Finally, each collection also retains its independence and offers an undisturbed encounter with its own special theme.
